Kensington Mission’s Trip
Reach, Teach & SEND!
WHAT WE DO
The Fix Ministry travels to Philadelphia every 2 months to minister to the needs of those in addiction. There is an area in the city called Kensington Avenue that is one of the worst open air drug markets in the world. We allot for about 15-20 people to be a part of a team for a trip, as smaller groups work better in this setting. We spend many hours walking up and down different areas of Kensington Avenue. During this time, we hand out supplies, program information, offer prayer and minister spiritually by sharing the Gospel and personal testimony. We also want to encourage anyone interested in getting clean to call The Fix Ministry and enter the program. Several of our team members are registered nurses and doctors and will be administering to the medical needs in the community as well.
Important Details:
-
Kensington is rampant with crime as well as a very visible presence of drug use. The drug that circulates the most is called “Tranq”. This drug is often made from a concoction of Heroin, Fentanyl and Xylazine, with Xylazine being the main ingredient. Xylazine is a veterinarian medication used in sedating animals. Due to the detrimental response of Tranq in the body, the flesh will begin to rot in certain places, opening severe wounds in the skin, and even leading to loss of limbs.
While on this trip you will likely be exposed to these disturbing conditions and many others. There are many homeless people in the area. We ask that all participants be 18+ and prepared to operate around severe wounds, public drug use, needles, public defecation, public nudity...etc..
Participants should be aware that there is the possibility of witnessing violence, as many of the drug dealers do not hide their presence and are often very visible. Kensington has been known for gun violence. For this reason, participants must be physically able to walk for several hours at a time and move quickly if a situation arises that calls for haste.
We have not often experienced dangerous situations, but we want every participant to be aware of the potential for erratic or unpredictable behavior by those in the area. At the end of the day, we go in the name of the Lord, knowing that he is our shield and rampart and regardless of the risk we are passionate to reach people with the powerful message of the Gospel.

As we serve this community it is required that all participants maintain an attitude of humility, respect, wisdom and Godliness. This is a very dark place spiritually and can leave a person feeling very heavy and overwhelmed. We encourage anyone going on a Kensington Missions trip to be in prayer and in the word, drawing near to the presence of God during the weeks leading up to the trip. We also encourage participants to take minimal photos, to respect the dignity of those we are serving. Team members are expected to behave in a manner worthy of their calling while out on the streets of Kensington and carry themselves with wisdom and maturity. Participants must be physically capable of walking for several hours with limited access to restrooms or seating areas.
Many people we encounter are heavily under the influence of a substance and may be acting irrationally. Due to this we ask that participants use wisdom while speaking and refrain from entering arguments. Our main goal is to show the love of Christ and offer a resource to those who are ready to get out. Members of our team should be capable and confident in sharing the Gospel, Scripture or their testimony with those we come across. We encourage our team to address people warmly, asking for their name and sharing their own, as well as offering to pray for them.
